- Neuschwanstein Castle
Neuschwanstein Castle was built in the 19th century by King Ludwig II and is one of the most famous castles in the world. With its towers, battlements and exposed location above the Pöllat Gorge, it looks like something out of a fairy tale and attracts visitors from all over the world every year.
Inside, the magnificent rooms, ornate murals and numerous references to legends, myths and Richard Wagner's operas are impressive. However, many of the magnificent halls were never fully completed, which gives the castle a special, almost mystical character to this day.
Neuschwanstein is not only architecturally unique, but also a symbol of King Ludwig II's romantic ideals. Further information on guided tours, prices and opening times can be found on the official homepage to the castle.
- Hohenschwangau Castle
Hohenschwangau Castle is picturesquely situated below Neuschwanstein Castle and was the childhood residence of King Ludwig II. As early as the 19th century, it served the royal family as a summer and holiday resort and has been completely preserved to this day.
The rooms of the castle are richly decorated with murals depicting scenes from German legends and Bavarian history. The living rooms and bedrooms are particularly impressive and provide an authentic insight into the everyday life of the royal family.
Thanks to its location directly on the Alpsee and its manageable size, Hohenschwangau Castle is ideal for a combined visit with walks or hikes in the surrounding area. Further information on guided tours, prices and opening times can be found on the official homepage of the castle.
